Plain answers
about menopause care

The questions patients ask before booking. If yours is not here, email us — we will add the answer.

What is Clera and how does it work?

Clera is a directory and matchmaking service connecting Canadian women to verified private clinics for menopause, perimenopause, hormone therapy, and women's hormonal health. You tell us your province and what kind of care you need. We route you to verified clinics that match. Patients pay nothing to use Clera. Clinics pay a listing fee once verified.

Is Clera a medical provider? Can you diagnose or prescribe?

No. Clera is not a clinic, not a telehealth service, and not a medical provider. We do not diagnose conditions, prescribe medication, or give medical advice. We route you to licensed clinicians who can.

Is private menopause care covered by my provincial health plan?

Generally no, or only partially. Private clinics typically operate outside the publicly funded system, meaning patients pay out of pocket or through private insurance. Some extended health benefit plans, employer benefits, and health spending accounts cover portions of private care. Individual clinics on Clera will tell you what they bill, what your insurance may cover, and what your out-of-pocket cost is likely to be before you book.

How is Clera different from a GP referral or a hospital menopause clinic?

A GP referral routes you into the public system, which (according to a 2026 Ipsos survey) keeps one in three Canadian women waiting more than two years for effective menopause care. Hospital menopause clinics in major cities exist but are oversubscribed. Clera routes you to private clinics that are accepting patients now, with appointments typically available within days.

What does private menopause care typically cost in Canada?

It varies widely by province, clinic, and what is included. Initial menopause consultations at private clinics in Canada commonly range from $250 to $600 for a 45-60 minute session, with follow-ups at lower rates. HRT prescriptions and related lab work are extra, and may be partly covered by your drug plan. Clinics listed on Clera will display their pricing range before you book. We are clear about this upfront.

Are the clinics on Clera verified?

Yes. Before a clinic appears in our directory, we confirm that the practice is licensed, that clinicians are in good standing with the relevant provincial regulatory college, that services and pricing are presented clearly, and that the clinic has menopause-specific or hormonal-health expertise. Verification is not an endorsement of medical outcomes. Final clinical responsibility sits with the clinic and the clinician.

Do I need a referral to book?

No. Private clinics accept patients directly. You do not need a GP referral, and you will not be gatekept on entry.

Why are there no clinics in my province yet?

We are building the directory province by province. Larger markets (Ontario, BC, Alberta, Quebec) come first because they have the most existing private supply. Add your email to the notify list and we will tell you as soon as clinics in your province are verified.

How is Clera paid? Do you take commissions from clinics?

Clinics pay a listing fee. That is it. We do not take a commission on what patients pay, we do not get a kickback per booking, and we have no financial interest in steering you toward any particular clinic. The clinic you choose is the one that fits your needs.
